Glashütte Original has created the brand's first pocket watch, Glashütte Original Pocket Watch No. 1, in a limited edition of just 25 pieces. And this handsome watch will be officially unveiled at the Baselworld 2010.
The Glashütte Original watch is done in 18k rose gold, and the dial is presented on white enamel with blued steel hands, slim Roman numerals and running seconds subdial at 6 o'clock. Both the dial and case back is fitted with hinged lids. And the watch also comes with a tasteful chain done in 18k rose gold. The exact size is unknown though, the watch looks having an average pocket watch size.
Beating inside in the hand-wound 84-10, a brand-new caliber movement by Glashütte Original. This movement has two distinctive features aside from the regular time. Firstly, it has a quarter repeater mechanism operated through the lever on the side of the watch. And the audio form is precise to the the closest quarter hour. Secondly, the movement has a a zero-reset mechanism for the seconds hand. When you pull out the crown and set the time, the mechanism resets the seconds indicator.
It seems that luxury watch industry makes a return to classic tradition by launching not a few vintage models and pocket watches. And the The new Glashütte Original watch, which is classic, tasteful and handsome, may be one of the finest examples. But I am afraid that not every one can carry around a pocket watch comfortably and gracefully in modern era. And like the size, the price of this pocket watch is still a secret.
