Mark It, Own it - Engraved Pocket Watches and More!

When you hear the words "one-of-a-kind", what immediately follows are words "very expensive." The good that has come out from mass production is that things have gotten cheaper, and for the most part, especially from producers who have and want to keep their good name, quality is not substituted by quantity. The sad thing about it is that well, you are likely to have the exact same thing that everyone else does.

Let's Get Personal

What you can do to still benefit from the less expensive yet good products out there to make it your own is to have it engraved. Okay, so putting your name isn't exactly original, you've probably done the same thing during your primary school years, but nobody says it has to be your name engraved on it, anyway.

Take for example engraved pocket watches, these can be engraved with just about anything that can fit on it's covers, from phrases to poems to little commemorative lines. If the engraver is talented enough, these engraved pocket watches can have drawings and more elaborate designs.

That's why engraved pocket watches make good special occasion giveaways like weddings, anniversaries, retirement parties and benchmark birthdays (18, 21, 50). Another reason engraved pocket watches are popular is because a well-made pocket watch, a classic in terms of design, is a future heirloom. The engraving on it will ensure that who ever inherits it remembers who it was from, and what it was for.

A Bit Less Sentiment, More Function

If you'd like an option on where to put your mark that's less mushy and more useful than engraved pocket watches, engraved Zippo lighters are the next step. There's still a little bit of sentiment and nostalgia attached to this WWII trinket, it still mostly looks and works the same way it did when soldiers brought them to the battlefields, and will last as long as their predecessors did. Lighters have a lot of uses apart from lighting tobacco, so don't let the image of smokers prevent you from owning a part of history.

Further down this spectrum of historically useful things, owning a couple of engraved Swiss army knives is not a bad idea. And, you're asking why would anyone need more than one Swiss knife? Doesn't go against that the idea behind having a multipurpose knife? Surprisingly, the answer to that is "no." A Swiss knife can perform a multitude of functions, but most of them are made with a specific situation in mind, like fishing, camping or rooting around in your car. If you've seen the new and tinie tiny lady's Swiss knife (it comes in pastel colors) going around these days, you'll know what that means.

Mark It, Own It

Not every one can have something made to their specifications because that takes a lot of time and money. But you can't let that stop you from making something uniquely yours, even if it's just an engraving that says "I belong to John." Now, isn't that something to think about?
