Why Do Collectors Prefer a Vintage Pocket Watch?

By Sue Chambers

Have you ever wondered why collectors prefer a vintage pocket watch over conventional wrist watches? There are various reasons for this. One would be that pocket watches are rarer than other watches. These time pieces were handcrafted only by the most skilled watchmakers, and each work of art is unique. Another reason why they are sought after by collectors is the fact that these type of watches are no longer being made. It is rare to find a skilled watchmaker with the ability to make watches of the old. Lastly, a lot of history can be told in just one small time piece. These watches have been around for more than 700 years.

A vintage pocket watch has more class, sophistication, and style than all the expensive wrist watches put together. They may not have all the modern gadgets modern watches have like dates, various meters, and electronics, but they basically have what a watch was meant to do; to tell the time. Honestly, have you used on a daily basis all the gadgets on your modern watch? The truth is you don't need all that clutter on modern watches. All you need is a time piece that tells you the accurate time; plain and simple. After all, isn't this what watches were made for in the first place?

Owning a pocket watch as opposed to wearing a wrist watch holds more than just telling the time. It shows your appreciation for history. It shows the degree of knowledge you have for watches. It shows your appreciation for the classics. It shows your uniqueness. It shows you have a keen eye for quality. It shows the amount of class you have, and it shows your sense of style. Owning a vintage pocket watch will put you on a class of your own.
